Guru Purnima 2026: The Light That Finds You

तद्विद्धि प्रणिपातेन परिप्रश्नेन सेवया। उपदेक्ष्यन्ति ते ज्ञानं ज्ञानिनस्तत्त्वदर्शिनः॥ ४.३४॥

tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā upadekṣyanti te jñānaṁ jñāninas tattva-darśinaḥ

"Approach those who have realised the Truth with humility, sincere enquiry, and selfless service. Those who have directly perceived Reality will impart that wisdom to you." ~ Bhagavad Gita 4.34

Every year around Guru Purnima, I notice a beautiful pattern during consultations. People who have endured profound loss, heartbreak, uncertainty, or transformation often ask me the same question.

"Who is my Guru? What will they be like? How do I find them?"

It is a sincere question, born not from curiosity but from longing ~ a longing that only awakens after life has stripped away certainty.

The answer, however, is rarely what they expect.

You do not find the Guru. The Guru finds you.

Not when you have read enough books. Not when you have mastered enough techniques. Not when you believe yourself to be spiritually evolved.

The Guru appears when your ego has become quiet, when your soul has softened, and when life has humbled you enough to recognise Grace.

That is the true essence of Guru Purnima.

More Than a Celebration of Teachers

Observed on the sacred Full Moon of Ashadha, Guru Purnima is one of the most revered days in the spiritual calendar. It is traditionally dedicated to expressing gratitude towards one's Guru, teachers, mentors, and all those who illuminate the path of knowledge.

Yet Guru Purnima is far more than a ritual of gratitude.

It is an invitation to recognise Guru Tattva ~ the eternal principle of divine guidance that quietly shapes our evolution. Sometimes this guidance arrives through a teacher. Sometimes through a scripture. Sometimes through silence. And sometimes through the most difficult chapters of our lives.

The Guru is not merely someone who gives answers.

The Guru is the one who transforms the one asking the questions.

For they turned my gaze inward and helped me realise that the stars we study in the heavens merely reflect the light that already exists within us.

May this Guru Purnima awaken humility before knowledge, surrender before Grace, and devotion before the Divine.

May we become worthy of the wisdom we seek.

May the Guru outside awaken the Guru within.
